Digitisation of the back issues of Acta Archaeologica
Since 2000, Acta Archaeologica has also been published online, but all the previous editions are available only as printed copies. It is thus necessary to ensure the preservation of the accumulated knowledge from 1930 to 1999 through digitalisation so that the many articles and monographs of great scientific value in Scandinavian history and archaeology are made available to all the world’s researchers and those interested in Danish and Nordic archaeology. Many discoveries, such as the Iron Age Nydam boat or the Norse Settlement at L’Anse aux Meadows, were first published in Acta Archaeologica.
The scanning of over 30,000 pages has now begun with generous support from Queen Margrethe’s and Prince Henrik’s Foundation, contributing to the project with 100,000 DKK.
The following steps involve image processing and the construction of a database with a corresponding search engine, which will be located here, on Acta Archaeologica’s website. We hope that soon our archive will be complete.
