Special issue of Acta Archaeologica: Post-Medieval Archaeology

Regrettably, Post-Medieval periods are often overlooked and neglected in archaeology, or receive only scant attention. Although Sweden in the Scandinavian context and Britain in the European context see the value in these collections, the rich and important studies often are limited to a smaller group of researchers and/or field archaeologists.

In the past 20 years, a lot of crucial research results have been produced within the field of Post-Medieval archaeology, giving an unexpected understanding of, not least, pre-industrial and industrial structures, battlefields, military constructions, and cemeteries from the 17th-20th centuries, and also – more and more – small site archaeology dealing with, for instance, farmsteads and villages and domestic life.

Often such studies cast completely new light on structures, communities, and behaviors that many erroneously think are fully understood or described. Results from these studies deserve to be brought into broader forums and shared with the public and scholars alike.

Acta Archaeologica would like to help promote such Post-Medieval studies and invites contributions from this field of research.
